Intentions & Reflections

New Year: Same but more intentional me.

I am not big for for setting big unrealistic resolutions because I know they don’t stick. Instead I like to shift my focus on small changes that I’ve had on my mind for some time. This year my husband and I want to focus on making time for “us”. Now, more than ever, with two kids we realize how hard it can be make our relationship a priority. He works long days and I’m either home with the kids or working a 10 hour shift at the hospital so by the end of the day we are both zonked. We typically end our night watching TV or our phones on the couch. We are both in desperate need of quiet time that it can be hard to even pay attention to each other. This is something we want to work on but, we both agree sometimes its nice to mindlessly sit (next to each other) on the couch. So, our idea for next year is to have a monthly (I just don’t think weekly will be possible) so a monthly date night is our goal.

Another intention for 2018 is to continue de-cluttering and organizing my life. If you follow along on my Instagram you may see I am already an organized person but there are plenty of areas I need to work on. For example, I have been saying for years I want to organize my holiday decorations. Next year I am doing this! Our playroom is a never ending work in progress. I would like to donate toys and only keep what we play with. This will be difficult for me and my son. We are both collectors. I can hear my husband say * cough cough hoarders *.

With the new year and the holidays over, I need to get back to my low sugar and carb diet. For me, this isn’t just a “fad” diet it is something I try and live by.  I feel so much better when I limit my sugar and carbs. I am way less bloated and my energy levels are so much higher. It can be hard to follow during the holidays and I am not really strict on myself then. Another bonus to this diet is it really helps me to eat at home. There are not a lot of “out to eat” options for low sugar/carb. So this really helps me stay on track with meals at home. P.s. if you have any low carb meals you love please send them my way!! I also plan to make a post with low carb meal and snack ideas.

At the beginning of a new year I also see it as a time for reflection. Many people (including myself) focus on what they can do better but I also like to look back at the many greats of last year. In 2017 we welcomed our baby girl. It has been such an amazing experience. I come from a large family and we are extremely close. Like, Kardashian style close. So, I have always dreamed of having children who share that bond too. My son is already such a great helper for my daughter, and Cece basically just stares and smiles at Vinny all day long. Vinny also started kindergarten this year. He has adjusted so well. Similar, to at home is also a great helper at school. Math is his strong suite. Maybe, he will grow up to be an engineer? I always say that’s what he is going to be when he grows up. Another exciting milestone for this year was my blog launch. I am so overwhelmed with the great feedback I’ve received. I am so excited to see what this new year will bring. And let’s remember stay focused, stay positive and don’t be too hard on yourself.
